Augusta and Ashland

$35.00

The 1500 block of Augusta Boulevard at Ashland Avenue is like many residential blocks just outside of downtown. A mix of late 1800s/early 1900s two and three flats with new construction appearing in between.

By the time these addresses started appearing in newspapers the neighborhood was overwhelming Polish. Advertisements for a grocery store at 1538 Augusta (second from left) appeared around 1910.

1536 Augusta (center building) was a tavern in the 1940s and 1950s, with records indicating it was for sale into the mid 1950s. Both addresses that once housed ground level commercial were converted to residential at some point in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

This is a hand pressed print with oil ink on 16x20 kitakata paper. Signed and numbered first edition of 25.
