A large portion of the housing stock in Chicago consists of two-flats and three-flats just like these.

The faces of these multifamily buildings change according to the era in which they were built, from early flat-fronted Italianates to Classical Greystones to today's ultramodern minimalists.

The 1700 block of Augusta is a small who's-who of late 19th and early 20th century vernacular styles, plus a newcomer. From left to right:

1. Classical/Romanesque (1892)
2. Stepped (Dutch) gable (1902)
3. Common brick with front bay (1907)
4. Italianate (early 1890s)
5. Pre-recession minimalist (2007)

I loved this block so much that I had to make a print of it.

Each print is pressed by hand so there will be slight variations in final appearance.

Print is 16"x20" on kitakata paper.

Signed/numbered edition of 10.
